Spectra-Mapal was founded in June 2005 as a joint venture with German based company Mapal Präzisionswerkzeuge. Since its inception Spectra-Mapal has been operating from premises located in Atlantis, Western Cape.
Spectra-Mapal specialises in the design and manufacture of Tungsten Carbide cutting tools including drills, milling cutters, reamers as well as non-standard indexable carbide inserts. Spectra-Mapal also offers the services of regrinding, modification and re coating of HSS and Tungsten Carbide cutting tools. All work is carried out according to high dimensional and strict quality standards.

Spectra-Mapal is constantly pursuing the latest technology through its German based partner, collaboration with local universities as well as tool trials at major local OEM’s. Current projects include the regrinding of PCD tipped tools and the development of specialised geometries for high speed machining of Titanium components.
Spectra-Mapal has also been the agent for the Kennametal range of products in the Western Cape since 2006. This is a comprehensive range of metal working products ranging from work holding to the latest ceramic and PCD machining solutions.
